These are questions that will addressed as Ann demonstrates numerous ways the paint the same subject. Learn how to loosen up or get more delicious detail. Paints, surfaces, technique, patience and skill all play a part. For this workshop we will be painting the same landscape painting numerous times, each progressively more abstract.

The final painting will be completely non-objective and will illustrate how important the design elements are in abstraction. Somewhere in the range from realism to abstraction, you may find your perfect style as a painter.

Part three of a series of four on the Atelier Method of Portrait Painting To make a portrait come to life and look three dimensional, getting the darks and lights right (the value range) is most important. It’s the most powerful tool for all realistic rendering. Making fleshtones look real depends on color temperature. Beginning with an underpainting (“wipe-out”) Holly will work from the live model to demonstrate the next steps in making a realistic portrait: establishing darkest darks and lightest lights, and modeling the form with a limited palette of warms and cools
