Katherine Taylor (International Sales Manger for the distribution of DANIEL SMITH products) and Che’ Lopez (Watercolor Artist) will be in our stores to share with you the history of DANIEL SMITH manufacturing and present a hands-on painting opportunity with DANIEL SMITH Watercolors. You will see first-hand a collection of natural minerals used to produce the PrimaTek watercolors such as Rhodonite Genuine, Tigers Eye Genuine, Serpentine Genuine and more. DANIEL SMITH watercolors span the spectrum from historical, to natural earth and PrimaTek™ Colors, to the brightest, boldest colors modern technology has to offer.

Katherine and Che’ will have a wide variety of watercolor tubes and sticks available to test and invite you to come paint!

All materials will be provided for you to create your own personal reference chart. If desired, bring your favorite brush.

Finally Spring .
Yuming Zhu will demonstrate his interpretation of sumi brush strokes, traditional and contemporary techniques to capture the essence of the fresh color of our State flower and magnolia.
In this demo, Yuming will touch upon how composition is used in traditional oriental painting, which is different from traditional western approaches.
Yuming will also share Important information about the materials used for Sumi painting.

About the Artist
Yuming Zhu is a very passionate and well-known artist in the Great Seattle area. Sumi/Chinese Watercolor, Oil and Pastel are the mediums Yuming loves to express himself with. He participated in the “Five Thoughts of Asian Art” program that was offered through the Seattle Art Museum and KCTS Channel 9.
He continues teaching sumi painting and calligraphy at community colleges, art centers at the Greater Seattle area. Yuming teaches Sumi through National and regional Sumi Associations, such as chapters of American Sumi-e Society, Puget Sound Sumi association, NW Art Museum and etc. Yuming show shows his artworks at galleries in Washington, Oregon and China.

Painting “Finally Spring” with passion and personal interpretation in Sumi style. Yuming Zhu will show his interpretation of sumi brush strokes, traditional and contemporary technique to capture the essence of fresh color of our State flower and other Spring blooming such as magnolias and rhodies. In this workshop, you will also learn to paint swallows flying through dancing willow. Participants will be encouraged to further discuss the composition in traditional oriental painting. Knowledge of Sumi materials and usage of artist chops will be shared in this workshop.

Using water soluble printing inks, a gel printing plate and a variety of tools and papers, we will explore the spontaneity of making monoprints.
Depending on the paper used these can ultimately be used for a variety of end purposes; journal covers, journal pages, collage, envelopes, endpapers and more.

You can even use them like watercolor on yupo, which will give you more control and opaque for those that are used to painting dark to light.  Painting in acrylics is the best of both worlds transparent and opaque.
