Why is it important to learn how to draw?

Well, drawing is the basis of all that we, as visual artists, do. However, the act of drawing isn’t simply to make a drawing. A lot of drawing practice helps your visual, motor, and mental processes to grow and be in sync. Recent brain research suggests that new neural pathways get made and frequent practice makes those pathways stick. You’re also building vast amounts of knowledge, even though you’re not consciously aware of it.

Practice and time will also make you comfortable with your own drawing actions. After awhile, drawing begins to reveal your true “artistic” style that will be unique only to you.

Joe will introduce various drawing techniques and tools that have helped him develop his unique style. He will also share with you his many insights learned from the drawing process and his research into how drawing is the communicative link to creativity.

Joe will demonstrate the drawing tools and techniques he uses to help him make the mental shift into the drawing “zone” (what Betty Edwards calls the R-Mode).
