For her demo, Barbara will have a landscape value study and painting laid-out, with the basic composition sketched out. Much thought and planning is given to composition and arrangements of darks and light. Darks are already underpainted. Barbara will explain the process thus far and discuss objectives of the composition and the value study.

As she progresses into the demonstration, working brilliant deep color into the dark shadow areas will be explained, especially showing how the deep complementary color in the darks works to pop out the bright colors next to them. Emphasis will be on color use and theory, and the last part of the demo will show how holding back on detail helps develop the painting’s harmony. The details are like the icing on the cake, being put in last and with great restraint.

At the demo you’ll learn composition, effective use of color value, color theory and the most exciting, how to use these principles to achieve more drama in pastel landscape painting.
