May 2012 Schedule of Artist Workshops at the Bellevue DANIEL SMITH Store

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for May 2012, at the Bellevue DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. These workshops have a fee, a list of supplies to bring to work with, and require registration.

MIXED MEDIA: Botanical Illustration with Linda Vorobik
Sunday, May 6th, 2012
In this workshop Linda presents the steps used to create an illustration in pen and ink with watercolor, introduces the media used, does numerous demonstrations, and coaches participants through their own illustration of a botanical subject. Linda Vorobik, PhD botanist and botanical artist, taught botanical illustration for the University of Washington Extension Program for several years, and currently teaches illustration workshops at botanical gardens and field stations throughout the west.

WATERCOLOR: Creative Journaling in Watercolor with Theresa Goesling
Monday, May 7th, 2012
Start your summer travels off right by learning to compose travel journals in Watercolors.
In this workshop you will learn quick techniques to paint and embellish your watercolor journal before you depart or compose a journal from your past memories and materials. Whatever you decide, you will be prepared to paint wherever your desires of travels take you to. All levels, beginners to advanced welcome.

FABRIC ART: Silk Painting with Linda Vorobik
Thursday, May 10th, 2012
Get started with silk painting with this introductory workshop with Linda Vorobik. This is a very satisfying art form, with some things you can control, and some things that it is more fun be surprised by the way the media (silk dyes) play on the silk. Several different types of silk are shown, different resists are introduced, along with different dyes and ways of fixing the dyes. Participants will be able to do one 22 by 22 inch scarf in the workshop. This will be a fun workshop!

WATERCOLOR: Sailboats in a Misty Bay with Ann Breckon
Monday, May 14th & Tuesday, May 15th, 2012
Imagine the quiet morning, mists rising from the water and softening the surrounding landscape as the tucked-in sailboats quietly rock. This will be a great opportunity to learn how to paint water textures, trees, fog, and sailboats. All experience levels are welcome.

ACRYLIC: Expressive Acrylic & Mixed Media with Jacqui Beck
Saturday, May 19th, 2012
This workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to learn to paint more expressively and personally. Discover techniques that lend themselves to increasing the tendency to experiment, loosen up, and be more expressive. Learn how to use collaging, under-painting, and layering techniques as you bring more life to your paintings and more enjoyment to your painting process. This workshop is open to participants with all levels of experience.

PASTELS: Pastels Portraits with Don Lee
Sunday, May 20th, 2012
This workshop intends to expand one's proficiency with soft pastels and then using that in the drawing of a pastel portrait from scratch. The first part of the class will be geared towards heightening our observational powers. From there we move into different pastels and the various possibilities for their application. Learning about facial relationships will assist us in establishing a good, accurate drawing as a foundation. Soon, we'll be on our way toward establishing a solid portrait likeness.

DRAWING: Basics of Perspective Drawing with Paula Ensign
Sunday, May 27th, 2012
Have you ever wondered what’s wrong with the roof on the house in your painting or why the bicycle wheels in your drawing don’t seem quite right? This workshop will show you basic perspective skills to use in both drawing and painting. We’ll cover eye level, vanishing points, and parallel planes, as well as circles and spheres in perspective. Learn about a formula for measuring the distance of receding objects. Bring your questions and perspective problems to this fun and informative class.
