Jannelle will share her secrets; unusual perspectives and the use of dramatic light through composition and design, high contrast values, gorgeous colors and the use of sharp and blended edges.
Recognizing that there are many different learning styles, Jannelle will demonstrate her painting techniques and provide a written materials list and a basic overview of her painting style secrets so that the fundamentals of pastel painting are understood.

In this workshop, Yuming will introduce you to an authentic Asian perception and you will learn to approach and feel the “object” you want to express in sumi style through your playful, tender inner world.
A branch of willow with new buds, a group of fresh Rhododendron blossoms will help you to create to feeling of Spring. 
Also we will learn the character of Dragon and see how we can evolve a painting based on the character.
Students are encouraged to bring local fresh blooming to the workshop and work on.

   About the Artist

Yuming Zhu is a very passionate and well-known artist in the Great Seattle area. Sumi/Chinese Watercolor, Oil and Pastel are the mediums Yuming loves to express himself with. He participated in the “Five Thoughts of Asian Art” program that was offered through the Seattle Art Museum.
He continues teaching sumi painting and calligraphy at community colleges, art centers at the Greater Seattle area.
Yuming also teaches Sumi through National and regional Sumi Associations, such as chapters of American Sumi-e Society, Puget Sound Sumi association, Also he shows his artworks at galleries in WA and China. He opens his own Studio/Gallery –Yuming Fine Art Studio, in Woodinville featuring his works and other local and international masters’ art work.

Hamid Zavareei, an instructor at Gage Academy of Art, will be teaching / demonstrating the basics of Encaustics at this FREE demo.
Encaustic is an ancient medium, using bees wax, that was employed by ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Greece. From application to ships and monuments to portraits on sarcophagi the artisans and artists learned to manipulate hot beeswax in different ways to accomplish impressive works of art.

  • Create luminous layers of color and intriguing depth in painting by using wax as your binder.
  • Hamid shows simple applications of wax suitable for everyone and discusses how to work with wax, pigment and oil paint.
  • He will demonstrate how to create a piece by layering wax, imbedding images, creating texture, drawing into wax and incising.

Come watch Anita demonstrate conservation mounting techniques for prints, watercolor paintings, pastel paintings, and photographs – how to get professional mounting results and prepare art packages for framing that will preserve the value of your artwork.

Anita will cover the S-hinge for heavier pieces and float-mounting, the V-hinge, the T-hinge, and two methods of “trapping” that are easily managed by the home framer. Additionally, Anita will show how to use acrylic spacers on glazing to add depth, elegance and protection to the finished art package.

Supplies of interest following this demonstration are various mat boards, acid-free foam core, yupo, double-sided acid-free tape, Lineco mounting tapes and photo corners, Artist Tape, ATG Tape, cutting tools such as the Logan Mat Cutter, and of course frame kits, hanging hardware, and Flexmaster and Framemaster point drivers and points
