WATERCOLOR: Portraits with Ann Breckon
Monday & Tuesday, August 8th & 9th AnnBreckon.com
Spend two days painting a portrait of your choice, or duplicate the example Ann will be demonstrating. Covered in the class: skin colors, hair, eyes, noses, mouths, ears and backgrounds. Tips for sketching and lots of help might make a portrait painter out of you! There are three great Daniel Smith watercolors that combined mix the perfect skin tones for just about any portrait. Come find out what they are!

Figurative Alla Prima Oil Painting: FREE Demo with Karen McClelland

Saturday, July 23rd, 2010, at 11am & 1:45pm: Figurative oil painter Karen McClelland will demonstrate Painting from a photo reference without loosing the emotion and movement of the real life subject.

Karen paints using direct painting, which is also known as alla prima, and refers to a method by which the artist applies each stroke of paint with the intention of having it stand as the final stroke. There is very little retouching or overpainting done after the paint from the first sitting has dried. This is an opaque painting technique used by the Impressionists in their early work.

Direct painting relies on more planning because the artist must consider form, color and value simultaneously. Artists use this technique when they want a fresh and spontaneous look to their paintings.

FREE Mixed Media Demo: Rabbit Skin Glue and Fabric - Creating Sculptural Elements to add to your Paintings with Judy Selogy

Saturday, July 16th, 2011, at 11am & 1:45pm Judy Selogy will be demonstrating how you can use Rabbit Skin Glue and Fabric to create sculptural elements that add dimension to paintings. Judy will talk about the historical use of Rabbit Skin Glue in Art and her un-traditional approach for using as an active part of the artwork.
She’ll show you how to mix it up (she uses a crock pot to keep it warm while working with it) and how to use it by dipping fabric into it. As the Rabbit Skin Glue thickens or “jells” at room temperature, it holds the shapes that you sculpt it into. It quickly sets, then after a week to cure, it’s ready to be gessoed, then for painting.
Also (this was a request from an attendee at a previous demo) Judy will share how she does her drip oil paintings. These are very interesting techniques, and perhaps one or both that you might like to add to your Art Technique Knowledge, and see how you might use them in your own Mixed Media work!

Sunday, July 17th, 2011, at 11am & 1:45pm we have a FREE demo with Rita Gesinger who will be demonstrating “How to Paint on Silk with Dye Paints and Gold Leaf”. Rita will show you the materials you would use, like our new Dye-N-Flow paint-able fabric dyes (part of our new Fabric Arts Supplies from Jacquard) and Mona Lisa Gold Leaf, and how to use them on silk. She will also share ideas on how you can design your own painted silk pieces.
