February 2012 Schedule of Artist Workshops at the Bellevue DANIEL SMITH Store

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for February 2012, at the Bellevue DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. These workshops have a fee, a list of supplies to bring to work with, and require registration. Please regiester early to be sure of a spot in the workshop, and to make sure workshops are not cancelled due to low enrollment. To Register, please call the Bellevue Store at: 425-643-1781.

Using a wonderfully fresh, luminous painting style, watercolorist Cheryl Hoople shows you how to add movement, contrast, and a range of tonal values to create a dynamic Northwest seascape. Follow her direct approach to painting scenes that recall days at the beach, a rocky shoreline, or a stormy sea. Cheryl explains a number of basic watercolor techniques as well as methods for creating special effects as she demonstrates how to develop a painting step by step. You will also learn how to paint essential seascape elements, such as skies, rocks, sand, and even sea birds. Additional tips explore watercolor painting materials and color theory so that you use the watercolor medium to its fullest potential.

CHARCOAL & GRAPHITE: Portraits in Black & White with Dan Riley

This workshop will be about drawing the human face in pencil, charcoal or other B&W media.
We will discuss facial proportions and structure and learn how to create an accurate drawing. We will discuss shadows and dramatic presentation of the portrait in monochrome. This will be a fun workshop and have lots of student drawing time and personal critique.

MONOTYPES: Intro to The Painterly Print with April Richardson

Experiment with this spontaneous and painterly method of printmaking combined with painting and collage to create mixed media artwork. Each monotype is a unique print, and the plate can be used over and over. Students will learn additive, subtractive, and drawing transfer techniques. Working with small plates, water-soluble inks, and a portable etching press, artists will explore the materials and tools to produce a series of monotypes. Beginning and experienced artists enjoy this medium.
